Let’s say you have a llist of customers and products (or services) in an Airtable database.

Now imagine that you want to automatically generate an invoice for each new customer order which is added to your Airtable database. Here is how you can do it, using Zapier and docMaker:

  1. Go to the DocMaker website (https://docmaker.co) and create an account.
  2. After creating an account, log in to your DocMaker account and navigate to the Templates page.
  3. Click on the “Create Template” button to create a new template.
  4. Upload your Word template file and click on the “Create” button.
  5. DocMaker will automatically extract the placeholders from your template and display them in the template editor. You can customize the placeholders by changing the name, type, and default value.
  6. When you’re finished customizing the placeholders, click on the “Save” button to save the template.
  7. Next, log in to your Zapier account and create a new zap.
  8. For the trigger, choose Airtable as the app and select the appropriate trigger event (e.g. “New Record”).
  9. For the action, choose DocMaker as the app and select the “Create Document” action.
  10. Connect your DocMaker account and select the template you just created.
  11. Map the fields from Airtable to the placeholders in the template. You can use the “Test & Review” step to make sure the mapping is correct.
  12. Save and turn on the zap.

From now on, whenever a new record is added to Airtable, Zapier will automatically create a PDF invoice based on the Word template and data from Airtable, using DocMaker.
